Bikita Rural District Council is one of the seven rural districts in Masvingo province located 86 km away on the eastern and southern part of Masvingo city bordering with Birchenough bridge along Mutare highway.

Introduction

Bikita Rural District Council is one of the seven rural districts in Masvingo province. It is located 86 km away on the eastern and southern part of Masvingo city (the provincial capital) on the Masvingo to Birchenough bridge highway. The district covers an area of 5286 square kilometers of which 51 percent is commercial land with 32 wards, whilst the rest falls under resettlement (3 wards) small scale commercial farming area (3 wards), large scale farming area (1 ward) and mining area (1 ward).
The district population based on the 2022 census population stands at 176,835 with 54% females. The average household size is 4.1 for a total of 42,917 households in the district. The council is a hub council for Masvingo province rural councils in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government.

Its of the few councils with Gender Management System and Gender Specific Projects with a dedicated budget.
45% of the council’s workforce are women.
