Beitbridge Municipality is situated in Matebeleland South province hosting the busiest borders in Southern Africa as it experiences a high level of migration. However, according to 2022 population census the total household in Beitbridge were 17,563 with an average household size of 3.3. Its major economic activities range from trade, import and export service.
Beitbridge Municipality has a gender policy that drives the council’s gender activities. council has experienced tremendous growth in learning and mainstreaming gender from the onset of its interactions with Gender Links through the Local Government COE process. Council was rated the most resourceful urban council at the 2021 regional SADC Protocol@Work summit. The council anchors the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government for Matebeleland South province urban councils.


Key Achievements

Municipality has experienced tremendous growth in learning and mainstreaming gender in Local government for Matebeleland South.
Launched a “Go Green, Go Clean” campaign in a bid for a sustainable clean town.
It has an equal number of female and male councillors a balanced representation in policy making.
