Introduction

The municipality of Anjinjaomby is a rural municipality located in the district of Sambava. The main occupations of the population are cattle farming, agriculture, and the vanilla trade.
Gender is important in this municipality for various reasons. First, the mayor of this municipality is a woman and has the ability to mobilize and lead in raising awareness among the population. Secondly, she is convinced that the gender approach is a tool that promotes the participation of women and men in the development process. She also considers that gender is a means of involving women in different areas in order to prevent violence.
Since 2010, the municipality of Anjinjaomby has been chosen as a center of excellence for Gender Links (GL). A partnership agreement between this municipality and GL has been signed. In fact, a “gender and development” action plan has been developed by the various entities (decentralized technical service and municipal officials). A legally constituted gender committee is operational and responsible for collaborating with the municipality in disseminating the SADC protocol and the gender approach at the Fokontany (village) level.
