The Report is about a 39 year old mother of four; Marietta Samuel from Tizwire village, Traditional Authority Kayembe, in Dowa district. Samuel has no hands, not because she was born like that, but the disability was imposed on her by her own husband Herbert Mankhwala. The Husband had to cut off her hands on claims that Samuel was going out with another man after damping him. Off-course when the case was brought before the Lilongwe High Court, the husband had to be imprisoned for 14 years with hard labour. Since the incident happened in 2006, Marietta has found it hard to take a good care of her family being a single mother and considering his physical status. For instance, she cannot manage to work and find money for her children ’s school fees, clothes and food; she cannot do anything on her own like even putting on her clothes. She has no proper house. And to make matters worse, all the organizations that promised to assist her like with capital to start a small-scale business and build a house for her are nowhere to be seen almost 9 years after their promise.
