Genesis Community Projects

Genesis Community Projects has been involved in the field of HIV/AIDS with a special focus on awareness & prevention. We have been working in Mossel Bay and Rural Areas for the last number of years. We have also focused on Primary Schools and on Out of School Youth and women & Men ’s groups. The following schools were the focus of our awareness and prevention campaign namely: All Saints Primary School, Isalathiso Primary School, Imekhaya Primary School, Herbertsdale Primary School, Groot Brak River Secondary School, Powertown Hall, Sonskyn Crèche, Fremeizheim open-air meetings, Groot Brak Sports Field open-air meetings. The group that we focused on were between the ages of 15 & 40 years. The group consisted of 500 women and 300 men in total. During this awareness focus we did a drama that focused on HIV/AIDS and we also distributed condoms and gave practical demonstrations on how the condoms are used. After every outreach we would distribute condoms to the people attending..Genesis has been a member of the Eden District AIDS Council that is part of the Provincial AIDS Council. We are also a member of the Mossel Bay Local AIDS Council which focuses on networking and partnerships. We are also part of the Mossel Bay NGO Forum. Our focus in the partnership is discussed on our regular meetings of the AIDS Counsil as well as the NGO Forum. At the meetings during our presentation time every NGO highlights their programs and the decision has been taken that no duplication of services must be promoted. As a result of this decision the NGOs have reached an agreement to cooperate and to work together as a united force in the areas that we service. As a result of networking and partnerships, the NGO Forum has become more united and more purpose driven. We do not experience any tension and infighting among the partners. When we apply for funding we focus only on our areas of service delivery.
