Ensure equal involvement by women and men in implementation of climate change policies and mitigatory measures.

INTRODUCTION The unpredictable climate patterns have resulted in global and regional climate change. These changes have been largely attributed to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels, uncontrolled and improper use of natural resources. RELATION OF PRACTICE TO THEME The practice seeks to establish equal access to resources and it is noted in the same light that both male and female can play an equally important role in addressing the problem of climate change and well as mitigatory measures. Climate change is so great a problem bedeviling Africa and particularly Southern Africa. Gender and climate change are two inseparable concepts because both are exposed to and affected by the impacts of climate change in one way or the other. The role played by both men and women can never be underestimated as they go a long way in curtailing and mitigating this problem. It is no secret that our future is doomed and has been greatly compromised by this beast - climate change. Men and women play very critical roles in addressing this challenge. Rural men and women have been adversely affected by the effects of climate change. It is in this light that women should actively participate in matters regarding climate change to safeguard our environment and the well-being of future generations. IMPACT OF PRACTICE notable changes have been noted to date, the community seems to be aware of the impacts of climate change. They are showing high degrees of alertness which is quite commendable. After efforts by all parties, there has been a reduction in the rate of deforestation and practices such as stream bank cultivation and ploughing down slopes are on the decrease. CONCLUSION It is noted that if included on the SADC gender protocol, climate change can be effectively dealt with.
