 Goodhope Sub District Gender Committee campaigns for women empowerment and inclusiveness in decision makingA numerous campaigns have been launched in relation to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights in the sub District to raise awareness on issues of Sexual Reproductive Health and Human Rights, this involved a quiet number of stakeholders and members of the community including students to discuss these issues in order to pave a way forward on how to curb these issues.THE MONTH OF YOUTH AGAINST HIV/AIDS It is a day to educate the public about the impact of HIV and AIDS on young people as well as highlight the amazing work young people are doing across the sub district to fight HIV & AIDS.MENSTRUAL HEALTH The goal of menstrual hygiene management is to ensure that women and girls can manage their periods in a way that is not only healthy, but that enables their full participation in school, work, and other activities. Poor menstrual hygiene can negatively affect women's health. When women and girls cannot afford or access absorbent sanitary products, they may use improvised materials such as improperly cleaned or scavenged cloth or other material such as newspaper or even grass. This may cause reproductive tract infections. Advocacy for menstrual health and provision of sanitary pads for children at schools has contributed to less number of scholars missing classes.TEENAGE PREGNANCIESBecause young people spend so much time in school, there have been presentations around schools to educate students about the dangers of teenage pregnancy as there have been a quiet number of registered cases of students dropping out of school due to this problem.CHALLENGESLack of support from management: due to lack or less support from the management system it is always difficult to tag them on board to Gender activities and to provide information on certain issues it becomes a hassle which in return make s it difficult to executive our monthly plans. Even though this is the case, planned activities always get carried out as planned. Lack of gender budget: Goodhope Sub District does not have a specific budget to execute gender activities, hence we depend on different departments for financial support.With limited or scarce resources we will continue to drive our projects and campaigns to raise awareness about sexual reproductive health and rights issues.This programme helps in the reduction of gender based violence cases in our sub district as well as in numbers of people infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic as the situation in Good Hope Sub District remains bad as the HIV/AIDS infection rate continues to escalate.Collaboration between stakeholders is a very vital step in to making sure that all is a success. IT enhances community confidence in policies and initiatives undertaken as well as increasing efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
