Women’s Month 2019: What’s on?

August marks Women’s Month and every year South Africa sets aside this month to commemorate National Women’s Day and to celebrate the achievements of women from all walks of life as well as count the gains and losses on womens rights.National Women’s Day dates back to 9 August 1956 when 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the Apartheid regime and its pass laws. August also serves to remind the people of South Africa and the region that the struggle for women’s freedom, justice and equality continues all over the world.Women’s Month 2019 is particularly important for the people of SADC, the Southern Africa Alliance and Gender Links.   GL will convene and also take part in partner events during this month.
