Social scientist Sheila Bunwaree is a Professor of Gender and Development Studies with more than 30 years of teaching and research experience at the University of Mauritius and in Africa.

The recipient of several fellowships, Sheila has spent time researching and writing about gender and politics at different institutions worldwide and has authored several publications.

Sheila holds a PhD in Sociology from La Trobe University, Melbourne, where she was a Commonwealth Scholar. She also holds an MSc (Economics) in Social Planning and a BSc (hons) in Sociology and Economics from Swansea University in the UK.

Sheila joined active politics in 2014, and her on-the-ground experience of different forms of injustice, particularly gender-related, led her to study for an LLB degree at the University of Lancashire. She graduated in 2018 with first-class honours.
