Norton Town Council women ’s club is group of ladies only who meet for the purpose of empowering women economically and socially especially in this HIV and AIDS era. Ladies are taught how to cook, bake, and sew so that they are able to make a living through these activities. Women are no longer begging for money from their partners as they are able to sell very small items like sweets, airtime and make a weekly contribution of $3 which will be used to buy groceries that will be distributed after every six months. They also pay $2 every week towards the purchase of kitchen utensils. Such activities keep the ladies busy and occupied. The club has also captured young mothers who are still new into marriages and are taught of various ways on how they can prevent HIV infection. Issues of PEP, PMTCT, HIV testing and Counselling, male circumcision, ART, condom demonstration and others are discussed. This had also contributed to the decline of the positivity rate of HIV from 33% to 15% from 2003 to 2014.Norton is surrounded by two lakes and this has led to more new HIV infections being experienced in the town as more industries were closed and men are now exchanging fish for sex. Most women do not have capital to start their own businesses as a result we invite them to come and start very small business with little capital.
