Tanzania Media Women' ’s Association describes itself as a media advocacy institution. It was founded 1987 and has over 100 members all of them media women.TAMWA addresses human rights topics from a gender perspective.TAMWA as a leader in partner with other organisation such as TAWLA,ZAFELA,TGNP and TAMWA' ’s crisis resolving centre (CRC ) has implemented Gender Equality and Women Empowerment programme which covered 10 districts in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. The programme was successful with the number of achievements one of them being a recognition of the hard work of TAMWA from the government with the awards on gender equality and women empowerment on World Women ’s Day 2015; number of articles on different GBV issues were published in news papers to create awareness to the public and call for action from the aunthority, number of TV and radio programmes were produced and aired covering different gender based violence issues. Legal aid and counselling was provided to number of clients, IEC materials were produced and disseminated, establishment of community steering committee that included paralegals, news gathers and animators which were responsible for handling GBV cases, sensitizing the community, and creation of knowledge canters at the project area. The last aspect was economic empowerment through orienting number of women on income gathering activities.
