Climate change is a topical issue in all spheres and its impacts spares no one. Water is one aspect that has been affected directly by climate change and hence the need to conserve and use it wisely.Kadoma City realised the importance of conserving water and decided to pilot a water harvesting project in one of its suburbs. This was as a result of water shortages that are experienced in Ngezi and schools are not spared. Schools are important institutions that cannot be run properly with erratic water supplies. As part of their curricular school engage in agriculture activities that need constant water supply. Facilities like toilets need to be constantly cleaned to maintain hygienic standards at the school. It is against this background that rain water harvesting was proposed for all the three schools in Ngezi. Schools were prioritises because they posed a good opportunity of a wide roof area and hence more water could be harvested at any given time. The project is meant to augment municipal water supply to schools in Ngezi. The design of the rain water harvesters also allows direct supply of water from the municipal line and in that case the tanks will also act as buffer water storage facility. The first two down pours of the season are meant to clean the roofs and water is directed for garden use only.
