Rural municipality of Manambina

Rural municipality of Manambina
The rural commune of Manamibina is located in the Menabe region. A center of excellence since 2011, the commune has a population of around 7,000. The main challenges facing the commune are illiteracy (85% of the population is illiterate), drinking water supply, and electrification.
Introduction

In 2011, the commune of Manambina, located in the Miandrivazo district of the Menabe region, began collaborating with Gender Links. Previously, it was one of the communes supported by SAHA.
Manambina hosts 14 organizations dedicated specifically to tree planting, which makes it a “green commune.” All 18 local tribes are represented in the area. Due to its fertile land, the commune attracts people from various parts of Madagascar who have either moved or settled there.
However, insecurity remains a challenge, with residents living in constant fear of banditry. Poor road conditions further complicate life—during the rainy season, only four-wheel-drive vehicles and tractors can access the area.
The commune has a CSB II health center, but many inhabitants still rely on traditional medicine. Nevertheless, literacy among mothers is steadily increasing. Women’s participation is also notable, as the commune has actively commemorated the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence for two consecutive years.
