Makoni Rural District Council is located in Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe, and was established in July 1993 under the Rural District Councils Act (Chapter 29:13). The council administers an area of 8,200 square kilometres, with a population of 288,444 people across 73,087 households.

Makoni Rural District Council (RDC) is located in Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe, and was established in July 1993. The council administers an area of 8,200 square kilometres, with a population of 288,444 people across 73,087 households.
The district comprises five constituencies, divided into 39 wards. Strategically positioned as the gateway from Mashonaland East Province into Manicaland, Makoni plays an important role in the province’s economic and social development. The district’s economy is anchored in mining, agriculture and tourism, offering vast potential for investment and growth.
Makoni RDC is also committed to inclusive and gender-responsive governance. Since 2020, the council has served as a spoke council in the Hub and Spoke Programme for Gender Mainstreaming, promoting equality and community empowerment across its operations.
