Kadoma City Council is implementing the Promoting Gender Inclusive Local Economic Development in Zimbabwe programme  through Waste Management. Waste management is a core local government function, particularly in urban localities. The project also focuses on environmental awareness and preservation.

Kadoma City Council currently generates about 18 tonnes of waste per day (18% of which is recyclable). Recycling of waste material like Low density polyethylene (LPDE) and Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) form the core of activities in this intervention.

Kadoma City Council is affectionately known as the ‘City of Gold’ as it is situated in a mining area. Kadoma is well known for its excellence in mainstreaming gender with a core focus on waste management and health as their strong areas. The local authority has also been a hub local authority for urban local authorities in Mashonaland West province.
