Harare City Council is the governing authority of Zimbabwe’s capital, delivering vital services including safe water, housing, waste management, and health care.

Introduction

The Harare City Council is an administrative body tasked with providing services for residence of Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. Among other duties, the council is responsible for providing clean drinking water, housing and accommodation, refuse collection facilities and health services. The council is a hub council for Harare Metropolitan councils Chitungwiza Municipality; Epworth Local Board and Ruwa Town Council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in Zimbabwe. Total population is 1,491,740 of whom 52% are females. The city council serves 407,991 households with an average size of 3.7 per household. |


Key Achievements

39% women’s representation in council as councillors, 15% elected and 24% women's quota
Market places designed and 45% of stands allocated to women, men, PWD and youth on an equal opportunity basis.
20% of the social services budget goes to gender related activities.
