Chimanimani Rural District Council is situated along the south-eastern border of Zimbabwe and is among the smaller districts within the southeastern part of Manicaland Province.

Introduction

Chimanimani Rural District Council lies along Zimbabwe’s south-eastern border, sharing its eastern boundary with Mozambique. It is one of the smallest districts in the southeastern part of Manicaland Province, bordered by Mutare District to the north, Buhera District to the west, and Chipinge District to the south.
Covering an area of 3,450.14 square kilometres, Chimanimani is the smallest of Manicaland’s seven districts, renowned for its rugged mountain terrain that rises dramatically from 1,600 metres in the Save and Odzi valleys to over 6,000 metres above sea level in the east.
The district has a population of 153,620, with 52% female residents, spread across 39,155 households averaging 3.9 persons per household.
Chimanimani RDC participates in the hub-and-spoke programme for gender mainstreaming as a spoke council, reflecting its commitment to inclusive and gender-responsive local governance.
