First of all let me tell you about the programme on which I aired the item of work I have submitted. The programmeâ € ™s title is â € œHapa na Pale (HP)â € it has five segments; these are Vichwa vya habari Magazetini (News Headings on Newspapers), Taarifa mbalimbali (News Reports) and Leo zamani (Historical Events on the Date).Other segments are: Dukuduku which is very famous and popular amongst our listeners and they use it to bring up their burning issues and views concerning the society that they live in and the development of their communities and the nation at large. This is what I used to air my item. The last segment of HP is Hapa na Pale Magazetini in which the newspapers are read in detail. The item I have submitted tells about a woman who is a widow with some difficulties in life. Like other women and many human beings, she is using all her efforts to try and sustain the family left to her by her departed husband. For the sake of a livelihood she has joined to Kipawa Women Saccos and was elected Board Chairperson to the organisation which is based at Ilala District in the City of Dar Es Salaam. Her organisation was granted a loan from a certain aid agency related to the Government of Tanzania whereby Madam Widow was a guarantor. According to her expression the loan was aimed at empowering members of the Saccos to stabilise their lives by conducting little businesses.Among the conditions of the agreement was to repay the loan in time with an additional percentage of an amount as profit to the aid agency. Unfortunately, some of the members failed to fulfil the agreement in time. This situation caused the donor to find a way to force them to repay the loan.So the donor decided to assign a certain company that deals with auctioning and court broker services. The commissioned agency used its power to take a car owned by Madam Widow and not Saccos property, as per their agreement. The item is a good example of gender in media content as it motivates gender issues which is an agenda globally and is among the key issues of the millennium goals. It has combined different ideas including my source (a widow) who is complaining that she is undermined and denied her rights by the court broker who holds her car illegally. On the other hand, she got support from male lawyers, mainly from WOLAT, an organisation belonging to the Catholic Church. The picture we are getting here is that she is fighting against men (court brokers) and at the same time is getting support in the form of legal aid from men. In short, this is men against women and men in favour of a woman.
