#Herstory: Changing the Map of Africa

What you heard on the news: Togo championed a UN Resolution to change Africa on the global map to reflect its true size. 164 countries voted in favour; six abstained; one (the US) voted against.
What you did not hear: the late South African veteran anti-apartheid campaigner and women’s rights advocate Frene Ginwala raised this matter many decades ago. Fast forward to 2026, young woman from across the continent drove the campaign that led to over 13,000 signatures to redraw the map of Africa!
