The proportion of women sources in the news in Swaziland has increased marginally, from 17% in the 2003 Gender and Media Baseline Study (GMBS) to 19% in the Gender and Media Progress Study (GMPS). There are, however, variations across individual media entities. While gender violence receives more coverage than gender equality, coverage still tends to be sensational, with little information on advocacy campaigns and where to go for help. The volume of HIV and AIDS coverage has decreased compared with earlier studies, but the proportion of those affected has increased.
