Zambia Centres of Excellence

The COE concept seeks to ensure that key councils are identified across the region and worked with very closely in their process of getting gender on their council's agenda. The approach also seeks to develop synergy in GL programme work by focusing various projects from our SADC Gender Protocol, governance, media and justice programmes in specific localities.

Chongwe


Chongwe District Council is located in Lusaka Province of Zambia. Geographically, it is approximately located between the longitudes 28 and 42 Degrees east and between the latitudes 15 and 20 Degrees South.

Kabwe

Kabwe Municipal Council (KMC) is geographically centrally located in the country. The council is politically controlled through elected representatives of the people through wards. The Council has the board of councillors, headed by His Worship the Mayor, who provides policy direction to the management.

Kapiri Mposhi


Kapiri Mposhi District council is located in the central province of Zambia. The district council has 95 employees. 27 are female and 68 are male.

Luanshya

Luanshya District is located on the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. Luanshya lies about 337 Kilometres to the north of the capital of Lusaka. The Local Authority was given the status of a Municipality in 1953. In 1957, the first Zoning Plan and The Town Planning Scheme was prepared and approved by the Governor-in-Council in Government Notice No. 187 of 1961.the Council has 14 wards of which there are 26 male councillors and only 4 Female councillors.

Chingola

Chingola Municipal council is located in the Copper belt province of Zambia. It has (2) constituencies which are Nchanga and Chingola. The Council has 27 elected councillors of which 25 are male and only 2 are Female. The council is part of the COE process and has done stages 1 to 4 of the COE process.

Monze district council has 22 wards with 22 elected Councillors with no female councillors.

Mazabuka

Mazabuka Council is one of the 11 Councils of Zambia’s Southern Province. The Council is composed of twenty two (22) elected councillors from the twenty two (22) Wards of which three (3) are female and nineteen (19) male. The Council also comprises of three (3) elected Members of Parliament for its (3) three constituencies (Magoye, Chikankata and Mazabuka Central Constituencies).

Kafue

Kafue district Council is Located in Kafue District of Lusaka province is one of the four districts in the Province. The others are: Luangwa, Lusaka and Kafue Districts. The council has 17 wards, and 17 elected Councillors. Out of the 17 elected councillors, only 3 are female councillors.

Katete

Katete is one of the eight districts in the Eastern Province of Zambia. The District has Three Constituencies namely Milanzi, Sinda and Mkaika. The council has 28 Elected councillors of which 26 are male and two (2) are female. There are three members of parliament and two chief representatives which gives the total number of civic leaders to 33.

Lusaka

As national capital, Lusaka is the seat of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government, epitomized by the presence of the National Assembly (parliament), the State House (office of the President), and the High Court. The city is also the capital of Lusaka Province, the smallest and second most populous of the country's nine provinces, and forms an administrative district run by Lusaka City Council.
