Shuvai Busuman Nyoni joined GL in May 2011 as the Gender Justice Programme Manager. She came to GL as an alumnus of the King's College London and African Leadership Centre (ALC) Nairobi, African Women in Peace and Security Fellowship Programme (2009/2010). During her fellowship Shuvai undertook academic and technical training in the Masters in Peace, Security and Development programme at King's College. She was then attached to the Organisation for Social Science Research in East and Southern Africa (OSSREA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She also spent time at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Addis Ababa office as a research intern in the organisation's Peace and Security Council Report Programme. Shuvai also holds a Masters in International Relations with a specialisation in International Political Economy from the University of Cape Town.
Shuvai worked as Southern Africa Project Leader for the South Africa-based Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) in Cape Town, which focuses on peace building, reconciliation and national healing as part of democratic nation-building in Africa. While her work there primarily focused on Zimbabwe and Mozambique, she worked with a range of policy makers, civil society actors and academics across the continent focusing on issues of peace, security, reconciliation and justice in post-conflict and transitional societies. Her areas of interest include: African security policy making and implementation; political economy of conflict affected countries and fragile states and the particular roles of and effects on African women.
