Ruth of Ghanaian and British origin, is currently working for UNICEF in London as an international media relations officer. This appointment follows almost 20 years based in southern Africa where she worked as a journalist, as a communication officer for UNICEF and as a communication consultant. She also worked in UNICEF Headquarters in New York as a media officer between 1999-1997.
Her first post in Africa was as the Africa editor of the Women's Feature Service. She has worked extensively throughout the African continent, but especially in southern African. Over the years she has written fundraising country kits/booklets for international organisations such as UNICEF as well as feature articles for international media. She has also facilitated media training workshops in Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique and Mauritius and is a former Coordinator of the Southern Africa Media Trainers' Network (SAMTRAN).
A long time activist in the gender and media field, Ruth's area of specialisation is women and children in armed conflict and HIV/AIDS.
