Gender Links - 10 years of work in Southern Africa
"Sometimes change comes through bloodshed; other times through dialogue, debate, persuasion and joint efforts. This is the kind of change that Gender Links and its partners seek to bring about. Not always easy to quantify, sometimes painstakingly slow, ten years is not a long enough time to measure the social change taking place in an entire region. My memorable experience with Gender Links is the time when I won the Gender media award through my contributions to Gender Links opinions and commentary service but could not attend the award ceremony. So GL sent me the prize that I now care as my other valuable things...Since then, I become a Gender active and think of a gender-based living world. Long Living for GL and happy anniversary for YOU

Je suis heureux d'avoir bénéficier plus de trois fois des programmes de GL. Une première fois en 2006 lors d'un TOT avec NSJ, puis trois fois entre 2009 et 2010 pour prendre part aux programmes de Media literacy. En tant activiste et formateur, ce programme m'a beaucoup aidé à progresser dans ma propre connaissance des médias et de différents regards que les médias ont de la société. Avec le GMDC, j'ai également pris part à la dernière enquête sur le Gender dans l'éducation. En tant que représentant de mon institution, IFASIC, aux rencontres de GL, j'ai appris à déormais faire attention à ce qui se passe autour de moi et à l'apprendre aux autres. Je compte maintenant améliorer mes performances dans l'intégration de la dimension Genre dans l'enseignement du journalisme dans mon pays, la RDC. J'ose croire que, grâce à GL, mon expérience pourra être partagée avec d'autres collègues de mon pays. J'espère également continuer à bénéficier de cet apport précieux de la part de GL pour ma propre formation et celle des étudiants que j'encadre.

Alors moi quand j'ai entendu Gender Links au début ,ca ne me disait rien mais y a un an de cela j'en ai appris sur le sujet grace a ces trois jours de formation avec Loga et toute son équipe.Je vous avourai que durant ces trois jours j'en ai appris des choses concernant la femme et le role qu'elle a dans notre société actuelle.Ce fut une experience très positive j'en ai appris un peu plus sur moi meme et sur les autres.Merci a toute l'équipe je suis partante pour une autre aventure avec vous.

In 2002 when Colin and Loga first came to Seychelles to carry out a workshop for journalists to educate us on how best to report on gender violence and the things journalists should bear in mind in order not to portrait the affected parties as being responsible to what is happening to them.
That workshop and other training which followed changed the way I write and from then on I have always looked and include voices in my stories.
The way I consume news has been altered and attending two gender summits have given me a better view of what the gender issues are in other African countries.

It is obout five years since I started to receive various information concerning gender from Gender Links. Thanks to GL for such information which helping and updating me as an activist towards GBV. Sometimes I have been taken some case studies from GL and shared with my fellow staff as well as members of our organization (MVIWATA-in Tanzania)in order to see how we can take collective efforts to tackle GBV in our community.
I wish all the best to GL and may GOD BLESS YOU in commemorating 10 years!!!
