GL has played a leading role in raising the profile of the Sixteen Days of Activism to end Gender Violence, or the Sixteen Days of Peace, from 25 November (International Day of No Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day) each year. Through the cyber dialogues, GL has been at the forefront of the Making IT work for gender justice campaign. GL's advocacy efforts, and work on national action plans to end gender violence, have also resulted in the Sixteen Days of Activism campaign being extended to 365 days of action to end gender violence in many countries in the region: a slogan also adopted by UNIFEM at the sixth African Development Forum in 2008. Linking the justice and governance programmes, GL is also working with local councils across Southern Africa to develop flagship local action plans to end gender violence. These will be show cased at the first Gender Justice and Local Government Summit is Johannesburg from 7 to 10 September 2010.
