The Africa Regional Service of Inter Press Service (IPS) Global News Agency embarked on a project entitled “From Polls to Polls“ in 2007 to strengthen the voices and perspectives of women in the IPS Africa’s journalistic coverage of politics, elections and governance processes. The two-year project focuses not only on African journalists in the IPS network, but also extends the training reach to women politicians and aspiring politicians in Africa to build their capacity to engage with the media, as well as their capacity to speak competently on the major women’s human rights, gender equality and development issues facing the continent today. This project is situated within a long tradition of the IPS global news service, headquartered in Rome, Italy, to strengthen the voices of women and a gendered analysis of issues in its political, economic, development, environment, human rights, among others, global coverage.
