(1)

Radio Islam is a community-based radio station established to serve the Muslim community of Lenasia, Johannesburg, Germiston and Meyerton. It is owned and managed by a voluntary association known as the Jamiatul Ulama Transvaal (JUT). The JUT is a school of Muslim theologians.

Radio Islam's mission statement reads:

Radio Islam endeavors to serve as a beacon of light, nurturing the emotional, social, moral, mental and spiritual potentialities of the Ummah [followers]. It aspires to unshackle the Ummah from the fetters of ignorance, innovations, and superstitions and guide them to the pure unadulterated precepts of Islam, to resuscitate the soul and deliver it from the depths of darkness to the lantern of divine light.
