The East Africa Journalists Association (EAJA) conducted a survey in 2008 to assess the situation of women in media in East Africa. The study was based on key gender planning concepts, namely sex and gender, gender equality and gender mainstreaming. Under this project, EAJA sought to encourage gender equality in media, in media houses themselves and in content. The survey showed that while progress has been made in some areas, there are still significant hurdles to overcome in achieving equality in East African media.
