According to the IOM, trafficking can be seen as consisting of three main stages: recruitment, transportation; harbor and exploitation.  Due to its porous borders, persistent gender inequalities and large economy, most trafficked individuals end up in South Africa, were they are most often put to work in bonded labour or forced prostitution. They work in squalid conditions, with no or little pay. The fear is that with the imminent 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the number of trafficked individuals will increase leading up to and through the duration of the games.
