There has been a marginal increase in the proportion of women sources in the news in Mauritius from 17% in the 2003 Gender and Media Baseline Study (GMBS) to 19% in the Gender and Media Progress Study (GMPS). The figure is the same as the region but lower than the global average in the 2010 Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) of 24%. There are however variations between individual media houses from the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation Television (MBC TV) at 28% to Le Mauricien and Week End at 14% each. In general all media houses have made progress but the MBC television made a marked progress from 17% to 28%.
