This is the fifth in a series of studies conducted by Women and the Law in Southern Africa (WLSA). This study assesses how the socio-cultural constructions of gender and sexuality and HIV/AIDS preventive and treatment practices impact on the capacity for women to enjoy their human, sexual and reproductive rights. The study illustrates the extent to which existing cultural norms, practices, and standards, coupled with policies, programmes and legal frameworks undermine women’s opportunity to enjoy their human, sexual and reproductive rights.
