This resource file builds on the files published by OSF-SA for the 1999 national and provincial elections, the 2000 municipal elections, and the 2009 national and provincial elections. It is an elections resource to guide journalists about the municipal elections of 2011. According to Dr. Brigalia Bam, IEC Chairperson, the media have been an essential and integral element of South African elections and play a significant role in deepening democracy. The aim of this resource file is to empower journalists to play a vibrant and effective role in: community motivation and education on voter registration; community and political party education during election campaign; community motivation and education on voting; community information and debate.
